Southern Fried Comeback: Bojangles Returns to the Big Apple

Bojangles is back in New York City. The beloved Southern-style chicken and biscuit chain is planning to open its first location in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush this winter, marking its return after nearly four decades out of the market. The expansion is nothing short of ambitious: around 20 outlets are in the works across NYC, with another 35 slated for New Jersey. For fans of Bojangles’ legendary fried chicken, biscuits, and sweet tea—it’s a long-awaited homecoming.
This move comes as part of a broader, aggressive growth strategy that may also support the chain’s potential $1.5 billion valuation. Heading the initiative is Habib Hashimi, whose prior restaurant experience in New York and Connecticut will be invaluable. Enthusiasm is high, with the company eager to reintroduce its Southern charm to East Coast diners.
The return follows a successful expansion into Los Angeles County, where Bojangles opened 30 locations, and it continues a trend of Southern food brands planting roots in New York—like Raising Cane’s did back in 2023.
Bojangles’ reentry into NYC isn’t just about food—it’s about nostalgia, strategic growth, and making a flavorful statement in a city known for its diverse culinary scene.
